Kathmandu, June 16: Two Indian Army soldiers allegedly beat up the owner of a hotel in Nepal’s Kanchanpur district and caused some damage to the property, police said Tuesday.

Lance Naik Bhim Singh Rajput and Sepoy Devraj Rajput of the 18 Garhwal Rifles allegedly crossed over the border to Nepal’s Brahmadev village Sunday evening in search of food.

Police said the soldiers consumed alcohol at Birendra Hotel and then beat up the owner, Indra Singh Dhami.

Police overpowered the two men and kept them under detention till Monday. They were released only after the Indian authorities promised to take action against them in accordance with army regulations and also pay compensation to Dhami.

The incident comes amidst growing allegations of atrocities in Nepal’s border villages by India’s Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB).
