Jaswant Singh calls on Advani

Posted by Ramesh Khati on June 16, 2009

New Delhi:Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, along with a delegation of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), called on BJP parliamentary party leader L K Advani on Monday to apprise him of the damage caused by cyclone Aila in the Darjeeling hills.
This was the first meeting between Singh and Advani after the former raised a gamut of issues related to “fixing accountability” in the party after the BJP fared badly in the Lok Sabha elections.
Roshan Giri, a member of the GJM delegation, said the entire half-an-hour meeting was spent in discussing the problems of the district. “Mr Advani said that he would pursue the matter sympathetically,” Giri added.
Earlier, Singh called on Home Minister P Chidambaram, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and General (retd) N C Vij, vice-chairman of National Disaster Management Authority to discuss the devastation caused by the cyclone and demand adequate relief for the affected people of Darjeeling and adjoining areas. “Thirty-two people died and thousands were rendered homeless. Yet, adequate compensation has not yet reached the affected people,” Jaswant said.
