Siliguri to get rail museum

Posted by Ramesh Khati on June 19, 2009

SILIGURI, 18 JUNE: Keeping in view the historical importance of the Siliguri Town station, the Central Railway Board has taken steps to construct a state-of-the-art museum within the station premises. According to the Railway Board secretary, they are sending a proposal to the Railway ministry for promptly approving the proposal.
It was learnt from Railway Board sources that the museum would feature several items associated with the oldest rail building in the region, like trolleys and signals.
The director, Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, Mr Subrata Nath, said that the museum would also feature a photo gallery. “Several rare photographs associated with the World Heritage Toy Train in the Darjeeling hills would be show-cased.”
“The New Jalpaiguri station authority has already submitted the museum proposal to the divisional railway manager office for approval. Once it is approved, it would be sent to the railway general manager, Maligaon, for final clearance,” Mr Nath informed.
