DARJELING, June 29: In a unique initiative, Shanker Foundation, a Darjeeling based NGO today reached Lath Panchar, one of the remotest areas under Kurseong Subdivision to enlighten the villagers on HIV/AIDS.
Members of Shanker Foundation said neither the villagers of Lath Panchar know something about HIV/AIDS nor any awareness camp have been held hitherto.
They added that a large number of local people participated in the camp, which was organized in support of Sanskritik Sangragchan Manch and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.
Tulsi Rai, the member of the foundation who is also HIV positive while sharing her testimonials said most of the people living with HIV/AIDS die of social stigma. She hinted that prevention is the best way to stay away from contacting HIV/AIDS.
