Toy train back on track

Posted by Ramesh Khati on July 3, 2009

SILIGURI, 2 JULY: Toy train services between Siliguri and Darjeeling, remaining suspended yesterday following the year’s second landslide in the hills, resumed today.
Informing this, the director, Darjeeling Himalalyan Railways, Mr Subrata Nath said that the landslide of mild intensity at the Chunabhatti loop between Tindharia and Rongtong crippled the services. “We have succeeded in clearing the debris today to facilitate resumption of service,” he said.
“The service between Siliguri and Darjeeling remained fully suspended, while it was terminated at Kurseong in regard to the trains coming from Darjeeling. The trains are now moving normally between Siliguri and Darjeeling without any hindrance,” Mr Nath added.
Regretting the second disruption in the much- adored services, the DHR director said that yesterday’s landslides were small in comparison to the devastation wrought by Aila.
