State level open poetry contest at Nepali Sahitya Parishad

GANGTOK, July 07: Various competitive events are being organized by Nepali Sahitya Parishad (NSP) in the run up to the grand 195th Bhanu Jayanti celebrations here in the Capital on July 13.
A State level open poetry contest was held today at the NSP premises as part of the Bhanu Jayanti celebrations.
Upcoming poet Prabin Khaling was adjudged first in the contest followed by Yam Prasad Tamang in the second place. Established poet Nirmal Kumar Bungchen came third in the poetry competition.
The winners will receive their prizes on the State level Bhanu Jayanti celebrations to be held on July 13 at the Tashi Namgyal Academy auditorium.
The competition had been presided by acclaimed Nepali literary figure of Sikkim, Dr. Shanti Chettri while poet Prabin Rai ‘Jumeli’, senior poet Bijay Kumar Subba and poetess Sudha M Rai were the judges.
In her address, Dr. Chettri commented on the poems presented by the participants in the competition. A poem should be sweet like honey which have give many good qualities even very little of it is consumed, she said. She also laid stress on more quality in the contemporary Nepali poetry and called for more poems based on the incidents of present times.
Similarly, senior poet Subba expressed his concerns over the lack of audience for the poets in today’s times.
The poets participating in today’s competition were mostly from the youth group giving hopes for a bright literary era for Sikkim in coming years.
An inter-school poem competition will be held tomorrow at NSP premises.
