DARJEELING, July 16: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) who is enforcing an indefinite Darjeeling Hills bandh since Monday noon has announced a 12 hour special relaxation to Sikkim.
Addressing a press meet today here, GJM president Bimal Gurung said that the National Highway 31 A will be kept open only for Sikkim registered vehicles for 12 hours on July 18. The NH 31A relaxation for Sikkim will begin from 6 am in the morning and end at 6 pm on Saturday, he said.
Mr. Gurung said that only ‘SK’ series vehicles will be allowed to ply along the NH 31A enabling people from Sikkim to reach Siliguri or vice versa.
The relaxation will enable the Sikkimese people to reach Siliguri or those struck in Siliguri to reach Sikkim. The window period will also enable Sikkim to beef up its stocks of essential commodities especially petrol and diesel of which rationing has already begun.
The GJM also exempted the vehicles of Sub Divisional Officer, Thana in-charge and Deputy Magistrate of Darjeeling Hills from the bandh purview from tomorrow. Earlier, the GJM had allowed only the vehicles of SP and DM of Darjeeling to ply.
Meanwhile, the indefinite bandh of Darjeeling hills completed day four. The bandh was total and peaceful with no untoward incidents in the Hills.
