DARJEELING: Eight members of the team led by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) left for Delhi on Sunday to attend the August 11 Gorkhaland talks, even as the All India Gorkha League (AIGL) reiterated that Gorkhland was not
possible until the Bill for including Darjeeling under the Sixth Schedule was scrapped.

Four other members of the GJM-led team have been camping in the capital from Friday. The 12-member team, headed by central committee leader Amar Lama, includes intellectuals of the region and three leaders representing the Dooars.

AIGL president Madan Tamang said that the Sixth Schedule Bill, which was placed in parliament last year by Shivraj Patil, the then Union home minister, is still in Rajya Sabha.

The All Transport Joint Action Committee (ATJAC) announced that on the day of the talks, all vehicular movement would be suspended for two hours from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. The reason is to facilitate the formation of a human chain from Lebong in Darjeeling to Siliguri via NH-55 and NH-31A. GJM has asked the Hills people and those in Siliguri and the Dooars to stand hand-in-hand and form a chain.
