Gangtok, Aug 13 Army’s 17th Mountain division today urged the state government for allotment of 3000 acre land in West district of Sikkim for expansion of its infrastructure in the Himalayan state, an official release said.

The GOC-in-C of 17th Mountain Division Major General R S Chopra sought the land from Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling at a meeting at the latter’s official residence here, the release said.

Chamling assured the army officers that the state government would extend full cooperation to the army with regard to its requirement for land, it said.

Chief minister hoped that the cordial relationship between the army and the people of Sikkim would continue, the release added.

The army has been increasing its infrastructure in Sikkim for some months now as part of the new security paradigm vis-a-vis China as the two countries share international borders in northern and eastern parts of the Himalayan State.
