Authorities in NE caution travellers for swine flu

Shillong, Aug 16 (PTI) With the reports of nine confirmed cases of swine flu in the North East, authorities expressed concern over people travelling to the region from Maharashtra, Karnataka and other places where the pandemic has reached to alarming stage.

“People staying outside should not go too close to their family members and should observe their status after arrival,” Health Minister Mukul Sangma said.

“They should stay indoors until the incubation period and if they feel they have symptoms, they should get diagnosed,” he said.

K H Lakinag, Director of Meghalaya Health Services, said it could take seven days to appear symptoms in the infected person. “So it is very difficult to detect them even after screening,” he said.

Of those tested positive for A(H1N1) influenza so far, two were working in Pune, One had infested with the virus in London and one in Singapore, sources said.
