Itanagar(Zee News): At least 7 MLAs—six Independents and one of Arunachal Congress–have resigned from the house and applied for ruling Congress eyeing for tickets for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh due in October next.

Assembly sources said that they today received resignations of one Arunachal Congress member J K Panggeng and five Independent members. Another independent member Roding Pertin submitted his paper earlier.

Panggeng in a statement today said he was joining Congress in deference to the wishes of the people of his constituency.

The five independents who resigned today include Phosum Khimhun, an advisor to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu. T C Tok, General Secretary of the PCC later confirmed all the seven had applied for membership of Congress.

The state assembly had its last session last week and is yet to be dissolved. The election schedule is expected to be announced after a 3 day visit of the three election commissioners led by CEC Navee Chawla to the state beginning tomorrow.

The AICC general secretary in charge of Arunachal and union minister V Narayansami during his recent visit here had promised that some of the independents and other non-Congress MLAs would be considered for Congress tickets.
