Posted by Ramesh Khati on August 21, 2009

Guwahati, Aug 20 (PTI) Demanding Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi should step down in the wake of Centre expressing concern over the law and order situation in the state, AGP President Chandra Mohan Poatowary today said state government lacked the political will to solve the insurgency problem.

“Both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home minister P Chidambaram recently described the law and order situation in Assam, besides Manipur and Nagaland, as cause for worry at the recent Chief Minister’s conference on internal security in Delhi on Monday,” AGP President Chandra Mohan Patowary told reporters.

Patowary also referred to Home Minister P Chidambaram referring to Assam and the two other N-E states’ to allow themselves “to bend backwards” before insurgent groups, making the fight against them that much more difficult.

“Under the circumstances, Gogoi has no moral right to continue and he should step down.
