Situation in Darjeeling still grim after landslide

Posted by Ramesh Khati on August 22, 2009

Siliguri, Aug 21 (PTI) Traffic movement was restored along NH 31A, linking Kalimpong and Sikkim, but the situation in Darjeeling Hills still remained grim today with another vital road still blocked, a day after the landslide killed three.
It would take at least 10 days to open another arterial link NH 55, the main link between Siliguri and Darjeeling if there was no more rain, District Magistrate Surindra Gupta told PTI.
Huge rocks fell over on at least 15 spots along the highway between Sevoke and Rambhi, Gupta said.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Kurseong said yesterday’s land and mudslide severely hit the life of the tourist town with almost all road links disrupted and many springs, swollen with rain water, changing course.
