Nepali president, PM offer Tika to people

KATHMANDU, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Nepali President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to general public on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the tenth day of the Dashain festival on Monday.

President Yadav offered Tika and Jamara (a specific type of yellow grass) to individuals who reached his official residence Shital Niwas in Nepali capital Kathmandu on Monday afternoon. Earlier he, himself, had received Tika and blessings from Bhramans.

President Yadav offered Tika during last years’ Dashain as well. Earlier, as the head of the state, people used to receive Tika, Jamara and blessings from king at Narayanhiti, the former royal palace.

Nepal was declared a secular state in 2006, and became a federal democratic republic on May 28, 2008.

Similarly, Prime Minister Nepal also offered Tika to individuals at his official residence in Baluwatar after he and his wife received Tika from their father.

Former King Gyanendra Shah is also scheduled to offer Tika to individuals at his residence Nirmal Niwas later on Monday.
