Sikkim witnesses first snowfall of the season

Gangtok, Oct 8 (PTI) The first snowfall of the season was today reported from high altitude places in the region like Nathu La, Lachen, Lachung in north and east Sikkim, the weather office said.
The snowfall has come at least a month in advance and may be one-off affair given the warm weather prevailing in the eastern Himalayan range, they said.
Snowfall was reported from Nathu La in East Sikkim and Guru Dongmar, Yungthang, Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim, sources in Meteorological office said.
Meanwhile, tour operators here welcomed the early arrival of snowfall in the scenic places in Sikkim saying that it will boost tourist flow in the state in the coming months.
A large number of tourists have already lined up to visit Nathu La and other snowcapped places in Sikkim, a tour operator said.
