Nagaland CM concerned over repeated attacks on NE people

Posted by Ramesh Khati on October 30, 2009

Kohima29 oct 2009(PTI): Expressing concern over the recent murder of a 19-year-old Naga girl in New Delhi, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio today urged his Delhi counterpart Sheila Dikshit to take steps to restore confidence in the minds of the people from North-East.

“Security and trust has to be reinforced in the minds of the people so that all citizens of the country can become partners in the process of nation building irrespective of the region they belong to,” Rio told Dikshit in a letter yesterday.

The Naga girl from Ukhrul district of Manipur was allegedly molested and killed by a PhD scholar of IIT-Delhi in south Delhi on Saturday.

Rio said the incident has made the people, primarily women, from the region more insecure in Delhi.

He pointed out that it was one of the several incidents where people from the region had been the victims of violence, molestation and disrespect to women there.

Demanding prompt action, Rio urged Delhi government to understand the plight of NE people and urged Dikshit to personally initiate necessary steps to make the country’s capital a safer place for citizens from across the country.
