‘Assam should ensure security to corridor project’

Guwahati, Nov 12 (PTI) The Centre today asked the Assam government to provide security to the agencies involved in the ambitious East-west Corridor project.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mahadeo Singh Khandela said the Centre’s ambitious East-west Corridor project in the North East was progressing well barring a few stretches in the district.

“I urge Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to provide full security to various agencies implementing various road projects in North Cachar district,” Khandela said after laying the foundation stone of a bypass and flyover near the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi airport here.

He asked the state government to resolve the issues of land acquisition and forest clearance to ensure speedy construction of road network in the state.

“Work under East West Corridor in the region amounting to Rs 5,217 crore has already been allocated and only a 21-km stretch under the project needs to be allocated.
