Aizawl, 17 May (Gorkhatimes):The success of Prashant Tamang, Saurabhi ,Amit Paul has really catapulted the youths of northeast India to another level. You name it whether it was Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland or Tripura the Indian Idol fever had touched every nook and corner of Northeast India.
If any state that was left out in the previous season of Indian Idol was Mizoram. Mizoram a beautiful hill state surrounded by beautiful hills can boast about being one of the best governed state in India. Its people basically Christians are known for not knowing Hindi let alone singing in Hindi. However there was a big surprise stored for everyone ,GSM (Grand Society of Mizoram) in association with Lelte a weekly Mizo journal had organized Indian Idol Screening 2009-2010 for the whole of Mizoram on 15th May 2009 in Aizawl the venue was Information and Public Relations Auditorium Aizawl, the Chief Guest for the function was his excellency Lt Gen Rtd M.M. Lakhera Governor of Mizoram.
From all over Mizoram 75 candidates were shortlisted and they had to go through the audition. Well! Gorkha youths were not left behind, they came up for auditions with the intent for doing the same what Prashant has done. By the way Mizoram has a large Gorkha population and youths here want to make a mark from this part of India too.
Out of 75, 35 candidates were shortlisted to sing in the next round. The President of GSM and Editor of Lelte Weekly Mr C. Dinthanga said to Gorkhatimes in an interview that out of 35 only 10 candidates would be selected and those 10 singers will be sent to different parts of Mizoram for concerts with singers like Prashant Tamang, Debojit, Saurabhi and others.
After Mizoram tour the selected candidates will be sponsored by GSM to undergo training and then sponsored tour to Mumbai for auditions to represent Mizoram.
